Hazards of Combustion Products: Toxicity, Opacity, Corrosivity and Heat
Hazards of Combustion Products: Toxicity, Opacity, Corrosivity and Heat
The book is intended to be an archival reference containing the papers presented at the Hazards of Combustion Products conference held at the Royal Society, London on 10/11th November 2008.

There has been a recent surge in the interest in the properties of combustion products (smoke, toxic gases, corrosive gases and heat), and how they affect human beings and property. Advances in analytical science, instrumentation and philosophy have now been integrated into standards. These developments, along with regulators’ increased awareness of new capabilities to estimate the hazard to life and property, clearly necessitate a comprehensive discussion on the state-of-the-art that influence safety, so that a clear view of the key issues and dominant factors can be identified.  This conference provided that forum.

The conference was first conceived by the organisers in conjunction with the late Dr Don Christian (chair of CEN 127) who was enthusiastic about this project and worked in the Programme Committee until his untimely death in 2008. Eminent researchers from the world’s leading research institutes working in all aspects of this field, along with standardisation experts from across the globe, gave state-of-the-art presentations on these subjects. Representatives from the key industries, with major interest in the assessment of the hazard of combustion products, described how their sector had traditionally dealt with this hazard and how this may develop in future.
